Drainage Culverts
Hong Kong has an extensive network of drainage and storm water culverts and tunnels. Keeping these checked and maintained is a constant headache, given their inaccessibility and danger in terms of worker access. As part of a drive to keep workers out of dangerous confined spaces, the Drainage Services Department is now requiring contractors use the Elios 3 for culvert condition inspection for both pre- and post-repair works, and we already have several customers using on a daily basis.
The Elios 3 has since become the default go-to drone for drainage and storm water culvert inspections. Elios 3 is particularly adept at reaching deep into steep or stepped culverts, which traditional crawlers can’t reach. Plus, the drone’s unique LiDAR mapping capability means all found problems and issues are localised and shown on a 3D map of your asset. Comprehensive custom reporting options allow for efficient analysis and optimised decision making. Already several DSD contractors are using the Elios 3 for culvert inspections on a daily basis.
Sewage Transfer Tunnels
Sewage transfer tunnels and shafts are extremely hazardous for manned entry and inspection. Again, the Drainage Services Department is tightening the safety standards for workers entering hazardous sewage tunnels and chambers, where dangerous gases like H2S are a constant threat.
Elios 3 is the solution — able to enter these dangerous spaces, and conduct comprehensive detailed inspections without the need for manned entry (which often requires trained workers with hazmat gear and breathing apparatus). Coupled with our new flammable gas payload, the Elios 3 provides a high level of safety and efficiency for detailed sewage infrastructure inspection.

Sewage Treatment Plants
Like sewage transfer tunnels, inspections inside the tanks and chambers of sewage treatment works are dirty, toxic and potentially deadly. For traditional inspections, workers must wear protective clothing, full breathing apparatus, follow strict safety protocols, and often have to be lowered into these chambers by crane or cherry picker.
With the Elios 3, sewage plant inspections are fast and efficient. We can complete a full tank inspection safely from a remote location on the outside, well away from toxic gases. LiDAR mapping is an added benefit, enabling the 3D modelling of internal treatment plant facilities for scan-to-BIM and other applications.
